Hi, M- Yes, I saw "To Rome With Love" and I actually deleted a paragraph from the blog where I talked about my writing process and tried to keep it short n' focused on motivation. But, it's funny, I seem to get the seed of many ideas in the shower and try not to lose them on the way to the studio. Solution, shower in the studio?
Looking forward to hearing about your partnering concept- I can't really "write" when I'm working with someone else- I get project outlines, marketing ideas- focused attention to work, but ideas do start happening with some music on and someone else working alongside me. . . Like you, I need the solitude for the the thoughts and words to flow.. . . this is some of the stuff I deleted because I thought it was going to open up another subject path and take up the rest of the week discussing- which I probably should just run with.
For me, it's more like I need to "go to work" and connect with someone and sit down and do the job. With the music playing, I can write and draw and flow. . . then discussions pop up and more cool stuff happens. I love the idea of spending a week on a sitcom staff. . . can you imagine writing for Letterman or SNL? I think you'd be awesome. . . I'd be "okay." I'd come up with some good characters.

I'm always interested in someone else's creative process and pitfalls. I'm most creative alone, in total solitude. The shower is easily my best place for writing in my head. I'd love to be able to partner with people and will be working on something this summer with a friend, so I'll report back to see how that goes.

I listen to a lot of interviews on talk radio and one common theme is a writing partner or a creative partner. I think most people need a partner, or even a writing room full of others to bounce ideas and grow them. A dream for me would be to spend a week in a writer's room of a sketch comedy show or a sitcom to see how it works and if I have the stuff to contribute meaningfully.

Did you see the Woody Allen movie where the opera singer can only sing in the shower so he tailors the opera around him being in the shower??? That would be me in the writer's room, in my shower, collaborating.
